The First Signs of Trouble Poole notices that Jekyll is becoming more secluded and distressed. He reports to Utterson, but he does not understand the cause. He is worried but loyal. The Growing Suspicion When he sees the masked figure in the laboratory, he begins to suspect that something terrible has happened. He is afraid, but he still serves.

The Desperate Action

The Desperate Action A Plea for Help Poole, unable to bear the fear, goes to Utterson. He is trembling and insists that they must act. His devotion to Jekyll compels him to seek help. The Break-In He takes the axe and helps Utterson break down the door. He is terrified, but he does not hesitate. His loyalty gives him courage. The Discovery He stands with Utterson as they find Hyde's body. He is shocked, but he is relieved that the mystery is over. He has done his duty to his master.
